I have just repaired the problem indicated by this fault code - P1690 - on my 2010 Thunderbird 1600 and all is well again with The World. In my case the bike broke down on the side of the road and had to be recovered. It turned out to be a dry joint in the connector that fits into the back of the speedo. It was not wet or dirty in fact it looked fine but after I had checked it I put some petroleum jelly on it, refitted it and the fault was gone. The fuel gauge is still blank but I am told that will reset itself after 30 or 40 miles. I have not tested this yet. A very helpful man at Triumph told me that this fault is caused by the ECU being unable to communicate with the clocks which in my case appears to be accurate. He was confident that it would be some kind of connector fault which it was. If my method does not fix yours then it may be a faulty connector somewhere else on your loom. So look under the clocks, under the tank, in the headlamp or the side panels. NB Triumph also stated that all accessories eg sat nav chargers etc, should be removed from the electrical system before testing ! Remember just because a connector looks OK it doesn't mean to say that it is. I would retest for the fault code after checking each connector because you may have fixed it without realising. Good luck !
